Aten leaves the reliquary in Ishtar's hands. He gets ready to take on whatever is heading towards him.

The sounds come closer till you see what is the source of the noise, mounted men, and a lot of them. When they see you they ride up in a semi-circle, almost all of them have crossbows out and loaded. They quickly sorround you leveling their weapons. One rider, better armored than the rest, rides towards you and seems ready to say something till he sees the reliquary. He makes a signal and two of the horsemen break off and ride the way they came. Now that their close you can see these men were the Grand Marshals coat of arms proudly. The rider that seems to be in charge looks at you and says, - Are you the merceneries sent by the Lord High Marshal to search for the cavalcade of the bishop and to ensure the safe return of the Relic? His tone indicats that this man is used to giving orders. The other riders (about ten of them) still are in a circle with crossbows levelled, you should probabley watch what you say....

"Err.. yes.. actually.. I am."
Aten looks back. Ishtar hadnt made it very far. The rider could plainly see him with the relic over his shoulder.
Aten gathers his courage.
"How does it concern you?"

The rider looks at Aten in an unfriendly manner, - I am Fredrich Stom, captain of the Lord High Marshals household cavalry. Even as he speaks three of the horsemen move and sorround Ishtar. - The Lord Bishop came and informed the L.H.M. of what had befallen him, and we are part of the force sent to soppurt you... - He pauses and listens to the sounds coming from the deeper wood, - But it does not seem that I will have to say anything more...' As he finishes the undergrowth parts and more riders appear. All of them (about thirty) are mounted crossbowmen except one. He is in full plate armor and instead of bieng armed in crossbow he has a lance, anybody that knows something about soldiers recognizes him as a knight. The fact that the captain saluted him and reported what he had found out implies that he is not any nobleman... The knight turns to you and speaks, - The lord bishop has reqeusted that the L.H.M sent us to aid you, fortunantly it seems that you have managed. He gives a signal and three horses are brought up. - The lords await you and the reliquary. Was all he said as he gestures you to mount. His manner and voice imply that you are to mount and he will not accept any other answer...

Aten attempts to mount the horse. After atleast 3 failed tries, a man finally helps him get onto it. Aten seems more than happy to let another rider tie a rope to the animal's neck and steer the horse about, while he sat on the saddle, bored half to death.
"Ishtar, ask one of them to help you."
The sleek martial artist points to another one of the men.

The knight sares at the two off you as if in disbelief that somebody does not know how to ride, the crossbowmen try hard not to be to obvious about their laughter. Some of the men help Ishtar mount, they also give you both some tips about atying in the saddle, meaningly sit straight and don't look down. It won't help much but it's better than nothing. Muttering something the knight gives an order and your group moves. It takes a while, judging by the way the men mutter amongst themselves, longer than nescesary but you reach the road. If there was any fear of ambush it dissapears as the road is used. A hundred knights of the Order Militiant of our Martyred Lady is riding towards the High Marshals crusade force, tagging along is a force of some hundreds of various figures, all singing psalms and all of them are whipping themselves, flagallents. When these fanatics see the reliquary they start cheering, though it is doubtful they know whose remains it contains. Despite all the noise you here something else, the wood is constantly sounding with drums...
The castle looms before you, it is still away, a black shape on the sunset, and you are already in the crusaders camp. Rows of tents, hundreds of banners and thousands of men. The knights and flagellents leave, following some of the Marshals men, to their parts of the camp. You are led to the castle, you are given a few minutes in which you remove the worst of the blood from yourselves, and you are presented before the castles lord, who spares a moment and turns from the company of knights, marshals, bishops (including the one you had met on the rode, he smiles and nods at you) and other officers gathered and speaks, - 'Well done sirs! The relic will aid our struggle. As promised you shall be payed, just follow my lord chamberlain. You have already served your part in this crusade, though it would be welcome if you remained for the coming battle, the lord bishop here, - he indicates the man you met on the road, - has even offered to accept you to his retinue. Though you do not have to answer now, knowing my men they probably dragged you here without a break.'

Aten smiles warmy and replies:
"We will stay here to fight this battle alongside you. But first, tell us who our foes are."

The answer is not given by the lord marshal, it is given by the oldest man in the room, one who wears the mantle of a cardinal, - The enemy! The enemy is the enemy of all life! Those humans that turn from god to worship demons. Men and beasts twisted into something that is both man and beast and the embodied nighmares that are demons! That is the foe! The lord marshal nods, - That is our foe. This wood has always been a safeground for them, and every few years they grow so great in number that they pour out and destroy the lands of the king. We have been hearing numerous reports of open attacks and we are gathered to destroy the threat before it becomes to great.

"When do we march?"
The call of the eagles soaring above drowns out Atens voice and he is forced to repeat his question with greater intensity.

- 'If you decide to stay than you may talk with the officer you wish to serve under after our meeting. As such you are dismissed, wash yourselves and find something to eat. A place to aleap will be provided in the guard quarters.' With that the High Marshal turns from you and he and the gathered officers begin discussing strategies, the guards give you not to discrete symbols that you are to leave, though politely. Upon finding the chancelor the man mutters something about the marshal bieng "Too Generous" but gives both of you a small bag containing 95 crowns (gold coins). When faced with remarks of a promised 100 crowns the man remarks, "Taxes".
Aten gains: 95 gold coins. Sympathy of the Lord High Marshal and the Church. Ishtar: 95 Gold, Sympathy of the Lord High Marshal and the church.
OOC: Sorry about that, I just thought it would be in character for a buerocrate to tax your reward. If either of you wants to take part in the crusade I geuss I could make a new thread... Just say the word.
