The bustling urban cadence of Sailon street had reached its nadir when Kliedon walked out into the pavement. Rows of skyscrapers flanked the lonely road. The sun peeped in through the ranks of towering edifices, providing much needed light to an otherwise shadowwy lane.
A solitary van made it's way down the thoroughfare. It was painted in bright shades of blue, green and red. It's queer colouration contrasted starkly with the drab visage of the abandoned street. Kleidon couldn't help but glance at the wheeled oddity.
Slowly, a pair of loudspeakers rose from the eyeball-smooth upper surface of the cruising vehicle...

Varlon took a sip of coffee and sat on the bench.
"Lets see how the stock market fairing today.."
Varlon looked entranced in the numbers and figures on that morning paper. He looked up as he saw an odd van pass by him. He looked up and waited for something to happen.

"Please return to your homes." roared the speaker (though it sounded as though there were several speakers). "This is for your own safety."
This sentence was repeated several times, before the van swerved into an adjoining lane and the thunderous chorus was lost in the distance. Kliedon looked around, thoroughly confused by the alarm. He only wanted a sip of coffee.
"A medium decaf starbucks coffee can't hurt."
Disregarding the calls of another approaching van (which was similarly coloured) he waltzed into the nearest Starbucks and saw a man absorbed in his daily morning newspaper.
Thrusting one hand into his cavernous pocket, Kliedon searched for some spare change. When his hand resurfaced, it was holding six silvered coins. About enough to purchase the delicious decaf of his desire.

"Go home?" Varlon looked a his fancy watch. "It's not even noon yet!" Varlon packed his paper and put it under his arm. "And so breakfast." Varlon stood up and started walking towards a restaurant.

"Shop's closed." said the bartender abruptly. "A curfew's in effect." Kliedon cursed under his breath and transferred the coins back to his pocket. "Why?" he questioned. "Dunno, buncha officers just told us to pack up a few minutes ago. I'm not one to pick a fight so I just agreed. Sorry Klied." "Ah, no worries." he said offhandedly, before the exiting the starbucks. Disappointed at his faliure to acquire the sepia elixir (more commonly known as coffee), Kliedon walked sullenly home.

"Never seen a man walk away from starbucks without coffee in his hands."
Varlon turned around as he waved at Kliedon.

Kliedon smiled blankly. "They're closing all the shops. Can't even get a d**n coffee these days without some foolishness or the other getting in the way."
The man who asked him the question was clearly affluent. One could tell that from the glistening watch and impressive suit he donned. Perhaps he knew what the curfew was about.
"Say, any clue why all this curfew business is going around?"

"My name's Kliedon." he volunteered, before allowing the businessman to take the lead.
"Rodney" he whispered, allowing the name to roll around his mouth. It sounded familiar.
